Charli's Story

An 11-year old girl from LA named Charli

Charli has always had a kind heart and an enthusiasm for helping others. She has also always loved selling lemonade and snacks at her lemonade stands. After Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of New Orleans, she discovered a wonderful way to combine two of her passions.

She did this by donating all of the revenue generated from her stand to the Red Cross. Despite being only 9 years old she raised a surprising amount of money after just a couple days by selling lemonade, cookies and brownies. Charli sent all the proceeds to the Red Cross to benefit the Katrina victims.

A year later, her elementary school took a field trip to one of the many Head Start supported schools. For almost two and a half hours she and her classmates played with the children and experienced their world. After falling in love with the children at Head Start, she made it her goal to help them. She realized that she could help under-privileged kids in the same way that she helped the people of New Orleans. Since setting that goal Charli and her siblings, neighbors, and friends have been holding lemonade stands. They have raised over $3,000 by holding lemonade stands on 20 or so days for 3 or 4 hours per day. With this success Charli realized how easy it was to raise a significant amount of money and that with the power of the internet and its connectivity that it was possible to raise much much more. By educating other kids about her success she determined that it was possible to benefit Head Start supported children all over the nation.

So with the help of her siblings, neighbors, friends, and the internet she decided to hold a nationwide event that would be both fun for kids and that would raise significant dollars for Head Start.
